Roofing Regulations

Re-Roofing Regulations.

Since April 2006 any person carrying out re-roofing of an existing property, which involves more than 25% of the roof area, must obtain Building Regulation Approval. This process is designed to ensure that the existing roof structure is checked and that thermal insulation, and measures to prevent condensation, are included.Failure to follow this procedure is a breach of Building Regulations and you could be liable to a fine.It could also affect the future sale or transfer of a property.

In September 2010 the National Federation of Roofing Contractors was given Government go ahead to implement and run a Competent Person Scheme for roofing work. The Scheme is now operational and Roofrite is delighted to announce that they have had their membership application accepted and have become one of the first companys in the country to join the Competent Roofer Scheme.

This means Roofrite can now self certify for Building Regulations on most roofing refurbishment work ensuring that, when we complete re-roofing projects, our customers will be issued with a completion certificate generated from the Local Authority Building Control Department. It also means our customers do not need to call in a Building Inspector to approve the work, and will consequently save fees of between £200 and upwards.

By choosing Roofrite, for your re-roofing requirements, you will be safe in the knowledge that the correct procedures are being followed and that you will receive the relevant certificate once works are completed.

We believe that our membership of the Competent Roofer Scheme endorses our reputation as a company who uphold standards and are customer focused. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to discuss this,or any other re-roofing issues.
